On October 18, World Nature Protection Day is celebrated around the world to raise awareness of the need to take care of the planet.
The importance of commemorating an exclusive day for the Protection of Nature, is due to the year 1972, date in which the former President of Argentina, General Juan Domingo Perón, pronounced in a speech in Madrid the following words:
"The time has come for all the peoples and governments of the world to become aware of the suicidal march that humanity has embarked on through the pollution of the environment and the biosphere, the squandering of natural resources, the unchecked growth of the population and the overestimation of technology. It is necessary to immediately reverse the direction of this march, through a joint international action".
These words reached Kurt Waldheim, then UN Secretary General, through a letter sent by Perón himself. The words resonated so deeply with the Secretary that he echoed them before the UN General Assembly, making environmental protection one of the main objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
However, World Nature Protection Day is not an official date proclaimed by the UN. World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5, is official.
In this sense, we at Pescatore Seafood are called upon to emphasize that nature and its biodiversity are part of our common heritage and the challenge of protecting it, together with the benefits it offers us, implies the active intervention of multiple actors: education, communication, public management, political decisions, science and technology, as well as the participation of society as a whole, in short, preservation is in everyone's hands.
The question arises: How can we help nature?
Currently, one of the main objectives of the United Nations is to achieve a more sustainable world, this is what is promoted in the 2030 Agenda, to ensure that countries obtain their development without affecting nature, rather taking advantage of the renewable resources it possesses.
The best way to help with this purpose is to meet the following objectives:
Use renewable energy sources.
Recycle and reuse plastic and any other waste material from which new products can be created.
Maintain the car regularly or replace it with one that uses biofuels or solar electric power.
Build green roof developments.
Generate organic compost in our homes to reduce garbage in cities.
Carry eco-friendly shopping bags.
Reduce our carbon footprint.
These are just a few suggestions, but there are many other actions you can take to keep our planet clean and healthy.
At Pescatore Seafood we employ all certifications, compliances and contributions to sustainability efforts, striving to care for our planet and satisfy the demands of our national and international customers. We are dedicated to the protection of fishery resources by supporting and leading the current sustainable seafood movement.
