Is it healthy to include fish at dinner?




Compared to other types of meat, fish is the most easily digested in the body, which is why it is ideal to eat it at night, says D'Janira Páucar, nutritionist of the National Program A Comer Pescado (Eat Fish), of the Ministry of Production.


The expert explains that due to its low collagen content, the digestion of fish meat only takes between 30 and 40 minutes, which dispels the myth that eating this food at night causes stomach heaviness.


Meanwhile, chicken meat takes two hours to digest, turkey more than two hours and pork more than four hours.


Another advantage of this hydrobiological product is that it has a low caloric content, so it is recommended for a balanced dinner.


"For example, the caloric contribution of bonito is 138 calories per 100 grams of fish, while for pork it is 198 calories for the same amount of meat", adds the specialist.


Thanks to its high content of omega 3, consuming fish at night also stimulates the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep cycles, which allows a good night's rest.


The species with the highest content of this healthy fat are horse mackerel, mackerel, bonito and anchovy; that is, blue fish.


To obtain all these benefits you should opt for healthy preparations, such as stews, grilled, boiled or steamed.


"From stews, dried fish, to cebiches, we can all eat fish at night without any problem, always taking care of the proportions and combinations", indicates Páucar.


Fish provides good quality proteins, omega 3, vitamins and minerals, which provide a series of health benefits, such as contributing to the development of children's intelligence and helping to prevent cardiovascular diseases.


The ideal is to complement it with other foods such as vegetables and cereals, to achieve a balanced diet.
